What to prepare for your audition:
Please prepare 16 bar or 30 seconds of a musical theater song.
How to choose an audition song?
Any song you choose is a good audition song on two conditions:
1. You Love it. Choose something that speaks to you. Something that really fires you up.
2. You present it well This is crucial. You must present your best work.
Are you auditioning with sheet music?
An accompanist will be provided for those with sheet music.
Please prepare your best 16 bars correctly marked in your music. Some composers are NOT a good choice of material for audition purposes: Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown, Adan Guettel. It is not because these are not fantastic composers. It's because they are extremely difficult to sight read- which is what your accompanist is doing for you at the piano.
Are you auditioning using a track or singing acapella?
You may also bring a recorded track to sing with.
A CD player will be provided. Acapella auditions are wonderful as well.
Please be prepared to sing ONLY 30 seconds of the recorded track.
Will there be a dance audition?
Please be prepared to learn a short dance audition combination.
Bring or wear dance/comfortable clothes and dance shoes to this audition.
How long does each audition take?
Please be prepared to stay at auditions for 1 full hour!
(example: If signed up for the 9:00 audition slot, you will finish at 10:00)
Parents are welcome to stay, but will be limited to the back 4 rows of the theater.
WHAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR AUDITION?
Have Fun!!! We are all here because we all love the art of performing. No matter where you are in your theatrical process, you are all that you need to be at this moment for this audition!
